I also agree that his female characters in this book are far more complex. More like actual women, almost.Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13500987056424242419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6205449672705523803.post-45340713031853668072012-05-24T10:19:55.224-04:002012-05-24T10:19:55.224-04:00Yeah, I don't think this one needs to be on yo...Yeah, I don't think this one needs to be on your summer reading list. I'm SO with you on preferring this to his books on Thatcherite England (which I find troubling in the way they depict black men as exotic objects of desire, and women as vapid and shallow with, I found, very little reflexivity. There's some of that here but not as egregious. The women characters here mark the greatest improvement to me).

And, indeed, that is a rather perfect bit!E-Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03306618457306286114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6205449672705523803.post-53453664295403277002012-05-17T18:09:41.757-04:002012-05-17T18:09:41.757-04:00Maude, I love these 3-bullet reviews.
